Hawthorne Woman Arrested After Alleged Road-Rage Incident

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lakenna King Scott, 50, of Hawthorne, was arrested October 22 after allegedly trying to enter a woman’s vehicle at a traffic light during a road rage incident on September 1.

According to a Gainesville Police Department report, the confrontation began at about 1:18 p.m. when Scott became upset with the victim, possibly because the victim was driving more slowly.

The victim told police that Scott abruptly changed lanes in front of her in an apparent attempt to cut her off. When both vehicles stopped at a traffic light, the victim looked toward Scott, who allegedly became angry. Scott then reportedly drove erratically alongside the victim, shouting obscenities and threatening to batter her.

The victim began recording the encounter and told the officer she feared Scott would hurt her. She said Scott continued yelling obscenities and repeatedly told her to pull over. At the next traffic light, Scott allegedly exited her vehicle and approached the victim’s car while shouting obscenities and racial slurs. Scott reportedly threatened the victim and pulled on the handles of the passenger-side doors, but the doors were locked. Even after the victim drove away, Scott allegedly continued alongside the vehicle, yelling at her.

The victim said Scott again moved in front of her vehicle, got out and tried to open a door. When she could not get inside, Scott allegedly punched the vehicle, leaving it dented and scratched.

Scott allegedly followed the victim as she drove away and tried to force her vehicle off the road. The victim called 911, after which Scott reportedly left the area.

The responding officer documented damage to the victim’s vehicle and reviewed video that reportedly captured the entire confrontation. The footage helped police identify Scott’s vehicle by its tag number. After Scott’s photograph was included in a lineup, the victim identified her as the woman who had followed her and attempted to enter the vehicle.

A warrant for Scott’s arrest was issued October 16. She was arrested October 22.

Scott faces a charge of attempted burglary of an occupied vehicle. She has six felony convictions, including three for violent offenses, along with 10 misdemeanor convictions, two of which were violent. She has served four state prison sentences and was most recently released in 2019. Judge Adam Lee set bail at $100,000.
