Authorities in New Hampshire apprehended a man on Friday after discovering that his 3-month-old son had sustained 30 fractures over a two-month span.

The Nashua Police Department revealed that they were alerted by the state’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families regarding the infant, who had endured “serious injuries.”

A swift investigation concluded that Drew Babcock, the child’s father, was responsible for the harm. He now faces eight charges of first-degree assault related to domestic violence.

According to reports from the New Hampshire Union Leader, Babcock, 36, admitted to investigators that his son’s persistent colicky behavior led him to “lose” control, resulting in the abuse.

During Babcock’s arraignment on Monday, prosecutors detailed the infant’s injuries, which included fractures to both femurs and a clavicle, as well as several bruises that led to fluid accumulation in his lungs.

Judge Amy Spony denied a defense motion for a $10,000 bail and ordered him held on preventative detention.

The case originated in the Lakes Region but was moved to Nashua, where Babcock and his estranged wife recently moved.

A probable cause statement said that Babcock told his estranged wife that he thought he had injured the infant. He said he squeezed him to stop him from crying and “may have applied too much pressure, but he did not realize that the had broken” any bones, the affidavit said.
