In Illinois, a tragic incident unfolded when a toddler, left in the care of her mother’s boyfriend, did not survive beyond an hour, prosecutors reported.

The boyfriend, Braxton Williamson, aged 20, faces charges of aggravated battery following the death of 15-month-old Ivory Brogdon. Case updates suggest that these charges could escalate as prosecutors weigh more serious allegations. Court documents reveal an autopsy was completed on August 14. However, the defense was granted additional time to analyze the autopsy results before Ivory’s body could be released to her family.

Speaking to local ABC outlet WICS, Christian County State’s Attorney John McWard disclosed that the autopsy provided a cause of death. Nonetheless, the prosecution seeks to confirm further medical evidence before deciding on whether to charge Williamson with first-degree murder.

In testimonies given by detectives, it was reported that Williamson claimed Ivory had sustained her injuries after falling down two steps, a roughly 20-inch drop. State’s Attorney McWard, however, pointed out that Ivory’s injuries, which included hemorrhaging and bruising, suggested the possibility of a skull fracture. Further investigation is needed to ascertain whether the fall could have indeed caused such severe trauma.

Williamson remains in custody at the Christian County Jail, where he is being held without bond after being considered a danger to the community. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 1.
