An 11-year-old boy from Philadelphia tragically shot and killed a man believed to be his mother’s boyfriend after witnessing an alleged assault on his mother by the man.
According to Philadelphia police, the deceased, identified as 30-year-old Jaimeer Jones-Walker, was involved in an altercation with the boy’s mother. The dispute reportedly centered around visitation rights for their newborn child, who is currently in the hospital. Although Jones-Walker was considered the mother’s boyfriend, he did not reside with her, as reported by WPVI.
Authorities confirmed that Jones-Walker was declared dead at the scene shortly before midnight on Thursday. “He was unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to his face,” stated Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department.
The young boy and his mother remained at the location and are fully cooperating with the police investigation. They were subsequently taken to police headquarters to provide further statements.
Both the boy and his mother remained at the scene and were cooperating with investigators. They were taken to police headquarters for interviews.
The woman told police that Jones-Walker attacked her as the argument escalated from verbal to physical, according to WCAU. The boy grabbed the gun and fired a single shot to the attacker’s face, police said.
Police said they found a semi-automatic handgun on the floor in another room of the home ad believe it was used in the shooting, WPVI said.
The gun was registered to the mother, police said, and Jones-Walker’s Tesla was double-parked out on the street.
Neighbors said the pair fought frequently when Jones-Walker was at the home.
Police are still investigating, and no charges have been filed.
