In Florida, a dramatic incident unfolded when a man leapt from his moving car on Monday after his daughter dialed 911, reporting a fight between her parents.
The young girl informed dispatchers that the family was driving along Highway 79 in Washington County, providing a description of their vehicle before the call abruptly ended, according to WTVT. She reported that her parents were engaged in a physical altercation as they traveled.
A deputy soon located a car matching the description and turned on his lights and sirens. However, the vehicle continued on its path until the driver suddenly opened the door and jumped out of the moving car.
Heather Searcy, who was in the passenger seat, quickly reacted by climbing over the console to gain control and bring the car to a stop. Along with the girl who made the emergency call, there were two other children present in the vehicle.
Authorities swiftly apprehended Albert Searcy, charging him with several offenses including tampering with or harassing a witness, domestic violence battery, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest without violence, child abuse, false imprisonment, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Investigators say that Heather Searcy had apparent injuries to her face and other signs of a physical altercation. She told detectives that when her husband realized the daughter had called 911, he hit her and took the phone away.
She also said she repeatedly asked him to stop the car and let her and the children out, but he refused.
Albert Searcy told investigators that they family had recently come to Florida from Louisiana and were on their way back there when the incident took place.
