HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – A woman identified as Penny Marie Cason, 51, faces charges of grand theft after allegedly embezzling more than $20,000 in lottery tickets from her workplace.

Authorities from the High Springs Police Department arrived at High Springs Pure, located at 23179 W. U.S. Highway 27, following a report from the general manager. The manager is collaborating with the Florida Lottery to assess the full extent of the theft, which preliminary findings suggest exceeds $20,000. According to the manager, the thefts took place over a two-month period and Cason has reportedly confessed to the crime.

After being read her Miranda rights, Cason allegedly admitted to taking several books of lottery tickets, though she could not recall the exact number.

Charged with grand theft exceeding $20,000, Cason has no prior criminal record. In light of this, Judge Meshon Rawls has permitted her release on her own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
