GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 33-year-old man, Kaheem Naquaun Smith, was apprehended on charges of burglary and theft after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and vandalizing her security equipment.

According to a report from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Smith gained access to the victim’s residence at Harbor Cove (6815 W. University Avenue) around 1:20 a.m. on February 13 by entering through an unlocked door. Once inside, he reportedly entered the living room without the resident’s permission. Despite her requests for him to leave, Smith stayed for approximately two hours before departing.

Before exiting, Smith allegedly dismantled and destroyed security cameras positioned near the front door, taking the damaged equipment with him. He reportedly returned later in an attempt to re-enter the apartment, prompting the victim to alert authorities. Law enforcement responded promptly, leading to Smith’s arrest.

Smith, who resides in High Springs, now faces multiple charges, including burglary of an occupied dwelling, petty theft, and misdemeanor property damage. Additionally, he is confronted with a sworn complaint for battery and property damage related to an incident on January 29 in High Springs, where he allegedly assaulted the same victim and damaged her car. With two prior non-violent misdemeanor convictions on his record, Judge Susan Miller-Jones has set his bail at $90,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
