On Tuesday, authorities in California revealed that charges of murder have been filed in the tragic deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle. The couple’s son, Nick Reiner, aged 32, is facing two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. According to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, he will also confront a special allegation for allegedly using a knife in the commission of the murders, as reported by The Los Angeles Times.
Nick Reiner was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. However, his attorney, Alan Jackson, stated that his client was not medically fit to be moved from jail to the Los Angeles County Courthouse. Jackson did not elaborate on the specifics of Nick’s medical condition.
The gruesome incident occurred when Rob, aged 78, and Michelle, 68, were found with fatal stab wounds in their Brentwood residence on Sunday. Law enforcement sources informed The Los Angeles Times that Nick Reiner was apprehended several hours later in South Los Angeles, in proximity to USC.
In the hours leading up to the murders, Nick Reiner reportedly engaged in a heated dispute with his parents during a Christmas gathering hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien. It was their daughter who reportedly discovered the bodies of Rob and Michelle Reiner, adding a somber note to an already shocking event.

Family friends told The Los Angeles Times that Nick Reiner was staying in a guesthouse on his parents’ property. They also claimed that Michelle Reiner grew increasingly concerned about her son’s mental health in the weeks leading up to her murder.
According to the law enforcement source who spoke with The Los Angeles Times, Nick Reiner is on suicide watch and is under special supervision. He remains jailed without bond.
