GAINESVILLE, Fla. – David Allen Dunson, 42, was arrested yesterday morning and charged with burglary of an occupied vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia after allegedly attacking an Amazon driver who was stopped at a red light.
According to the arrest report, a Gainesville Police Department officer was a few cars behind the Amazon delivery vehicle near the intersection of S. Main Street and 1st Avenue and witnessed the entire incident. The officer reported that Dunson approached the delivery vehicle while it was stopped at a red light and punched the driver through an open window while the driver was taking video of Dunson.
Dunson allegedly approached the delivery vehicle aggressively, screaming and using racial slurs, and tried to fight the driver. The driver reportedly got out of the vehicle to defend himself, and the two men fought until the officer broke it up.
A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a glass pipe that is typically used for smoking illegal narcotics.
Dunson, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has four felony convictions (one violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (none violent). His local criminal history goes back to 2015, but he also has charges in Alabama and Tennessee between 1999 and 2022. Dunson reportedly refused to attend the First Appearance hearing this morning, and Judge Bo Bayer ordered him held without bail until tomorrow, when bail will be set if he attends the First Appearance hearing.
