Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Timothy John Conway, 47, was arrested yesterday and charged with burglary, grand theft, and drug possession after allegedly entering a hotel room at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at 3726 SW 40th Boulevard and taking items belonging to a guest.
A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the hotel at about noon yesterday and found Conway in a hotel room, where he had put on the guest’s clothes, damaged a prayer rug, and stolen $3,700. The guest returned to the room while Conway was still there and confronted him; Conway reportedly returned most of the cash at that point.
The officer reported that Conway was still in the hotel room and wearing the guest’s clothes when she arrived.
Conway also allegedly took a comforter that belonged to the hotel and was using it to carry his belongings.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced 0.8 grams of MDPV.
Post Miranda, Conway reportedly said someone gave him the key to the room, but he could not identify or describe the person. He said the MDPV was “Chinese wax” but did not belong to him.
This is Conway’s third arrest since June 5, 2023. The June arrest was for stealing a bicycle; the charges were later dropped. He was arrested again in August after failing to appear at a hearing on a charge of trespass after warning and was convicted, fined, and released in late September. He was referred to Mental Health Court in June by Judge Susan Miller-Jones, but the State Attorney’s Office did not approve the request.
Conway has eight felony convictions (none violent) and 11 misdemeanor convictions (none violent). Judge Walter Green set bail at $25,000.
