GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kishon Marquis Jones, 29, was arrested yesterday and charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, petit theft, and battery on a law enforcement officer after allegedly entering a woman’s home and bedroom while she slept.
A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a call from a woman who said she was taking a nap and woke up because she heard rustling in her room; she said she thought it might have been one of her pets, but when the noises continued, she woke up and saw a man, later identified as Jones, in her bedroom. She said she was terrified and yelled at the man to get out, but the man told her to shut up and started slowly walking out of the house. She said the man was looking around as he walked, and she believed he was still looking for things to steal.
The victim said Jones was wearing a shirt he had taken from her and that he had also taken her cigarettes.

An officer reportedly found Jones hiding in the victim’s fenced yard, where he spontaneously said he was homeless and thought the property was abandoned. He was reportedly wearing a shirt that matched the detailed description given by the victim, and a pack of cigarettes matching her description was in his pocket. The victim also positively identified Jones as the man who had been in her bedroom.
While being transported to the jail, Jones allegedly spit on an officer.
Jones has eight felony convictions (one violent) and 21 misdemeanor convictions (two violent); he has two convictions since April for trespass after warning. He has served three state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2019. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $35,000.
