Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Devan Terrell Green, 35, was arrested yesterday for punching and threatening officers who were trying to remove him from GRACE Marketplace.

At about 11:43 a.m. on September 29, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to GRACE Marketplace (3055 NE 28th Drive), where a GPD officer had trespassed Green from the property about 45 minutes earlier.

The same officer saw Green on the property again and asked him to walk to the officer’s patrol vehicle; Green allegedly refused and instead walked toward the GRACE Marketplace parking lot. Two officers reportedly attempted to handcuff Green, but Green allegedly punched one of the officers in the face; the officer reportedly did not suffer any visible injuries.

Green allegedly turned toward the other officer, bladed his body, and raised two fists in a fighting stance before unsuccessfully trying to punch the officer. The officers took Green into custody.

A witness reportedly told an officer that she had been sitting in a parked vehicle with a view of the incident, and she said she saw Green punch both of the officers.

Green, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with battery on an officer, assault on an officer, and trespassing after a warning. He has two felony convictions (non-violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (non-violent). He was arrested in April 2023 for cashing a fraudulent check, adjudication of guilt was withheld after he entered a plea of nolo contendere, and he was sentenced to two years of probation; after he was arrested twice for violating probation, he served five months in jail. He was also arrested for trespassing and resisting an officer in 2023 and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served. In July 2025, he was arrested for chest-bumping a Loss Prevention Officer at Walmart and for possession of someone else’s ID, and on August 20, he was sentenced to 37 days in jail with credit for 37 days served.

Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $32,500 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
