Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 32-year-old woman, Shakira Campbell, was taken into custody yesterday after reportedly making threats against a police officer and his family following a request for her to leave a Midtown Publix store.

According to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), Campbell entered the Publix located at 203 NW 13th Street around 9:15 a.m. and proceeded to fall asleep at one of the tables. She was initially asked to leave the premises at approximately 11 a.m. but refused. When asked again around 1:15 p.m., she still declined to comply, prompting a Publix representative to call 911. Campbell left the store while the representative was on the phone with emergency services.

Subsequently, a GPD officer discovered Campbell across NW 13th Street, lying behind a pillar with her belongings scattered nearby. When approached by the officer and asked if she required medical assistance, Campbell declined. She also reportedly refused to provide her name and allegedly began shouting threats, stating she would harm the officer, his wife, and children, specifically threatening to hang the officer and decapitate him.

Described in the arrest report as homeless, Campbell faces charges of making a death threat against a law enforcement officer and trespassing after receiving a warning. Although she has no known criminal convictions, she reportedly has a criminal history spanning nine states over the last decade. Judge Jonathan Ramsey has set her bail at $12,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
