Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In the early hours of the morning, Tiffany R. Tackett, aged 43, was taken into custody after reportedly attempting to steal several cans of compressed air from the CVS on Archer Road and resisting arrest by officers.

According to a report from the Gainesville Police Department, Tackett entered the CVS located at 3404 SW Archer Road at approximately 4:10 a.m. on November 17. She approached the register carrying a used CVS shopping bag and placed around $4 on the counter. When an employee inquired if she required assistance with a purchase, Tackett allegedly did not respond and instead headed toward the store’s refrigerator. However, she reportedly veered away and accessed a restricted area marked “For Employees Only.”

The staff member informed Tackett that she was not authorized to be there and needed to vacate the premises. Instead, Tackett allegedly advanced towards the employee, pushing her to the ground before seizing four cans of Dust-Off compressed air and exiting the store. The encounter left the employee with a bruise and scrape from the incident.

Authorities located Tackett seated at a nearby Starbucks, situated at 3524 SW Archer Road. Upon the officers’ approach, she allegedly attempted to evade them by moving away and subsequently collapsed into a corner, refusing to stand. During the struggle, she resisted handcuffing and reportedly inhaled from one of the compressed air cans.

Post Miranda, Tackett reportedly declined to answer questions.

Tackett, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been charged with robbery, resisting an officer without violence, and inhaling a controlled substance. She has two felony convictions (non-violent) and 20 misdemeanor convictions (one violent) and has active arrest warrants in Ohio and Texas. She was arrested in September for stealing a tip jar, served 30 days in jail after entering a plea of nolo contendere, and was released on October 24. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $60,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
