An Indiana couple is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy.

On Friday, Franklin Elmore Jr., 29, and his wife, Cheyenne Elmore, 27, were arrested. WDNU reported that their arrests are in connection with the death of Franklin Elmore Jr.’s son.

On the evening of August 3, first responders arrived at the Elmore residence in Elkhart County after receiving a call saying the boy had “hit himself.”

The prosecutor’s report showed that the hospital noted several injuries that were not self-inflicted. The young boy was found to have a punctured lung and traumatic brain injury.

WBTS reported that inside the child’s room, video surveillance showed the child being abused by his father while his stepmother did nothing to stop the abuse.

During the investigation, abusive forms of discipline were alleged, including forcing the child to do extensive physical exercise and hitting him with a belt and their hands, according to WNDU.

The Elmores are being held without bond at the Elkhart County Jail until their next hearing on Thursday, with formal charges expected on Monday.
