An Indiana man appeared to treat his arrest as a joke after he was caught breaking into his former girlfriend’s residence earlier this week.
Hayden Cooper, aged 30, flashed a grin and stuck out his tongue in his mugshot following his arrest on Wednesday. He faces charges of felony residential entry, according to a report by WBIW.
Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded after the ex-girlfriend reported the break-in. She indicated that Cooper fled the scene in a pickup truck fitted with a ladder rack. The deputies soon located the vehicle and executed a “felony-style traffic stop” to apprehend him.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim informed officers she heard Cooper’s truck approaching and attempted to secure her home, but inadvertently left one window unsecured. Cooper reportedly broke the screen on this window and entered the living room.
A nearby neighbor confirmed the incident, stating she heard loud noises during the break-in and saw Cooper inside through the window.
The victim said she told Cooper to leave and retreated into her bedroom. When she later walked outside the home, Cooper followed her out.
She told deputies that he was her ex-boyfriend, that he had never lived in the home where she lived with her 5- and 7-year-old children, and that he did not have permission to enter. She said she told him she did not want to have any further contact with him, and he threatened to release private videos of her.
Cooper demanded an attorney and refused to speak with with detectives but made a visual statement at his booking.
