An Indiana resident found herself in police custody last week after allegedly discharging her firearm into the ground in an attempt to quiet a group of children.
Authorities reported that 42-year-old Nicole Gilstrap, expressing frustration with the noise from children playing in a nearby field, claimed she shot the gun into the earth to silence them, according to WBIW.
Gilstrap recounted that she fired the weapon while positioned behind her shed, acknowledging she could not see the children from her location.
The mother of the children stated she heard six shots and, during a confrontation with Gilstrap about the incident, alleged that Gilstrap threatened to shoot her and her five children. At the time of the shooting, only two of her children were in the field.
Following the altercation, the children’s father contacted emergency services, reporting that Gilstrap had threatened his family with gunfire. When deputies arrived, Gilstrap consented to a search of her camper, leading to the confiscation of a 9mm handgun as part of the investigation.
Gilstrap was charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness.
