GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities detained 40-year-old Jeffrey Scott Wallace yesterday in connection with an alleged confrontation on June 21, during which he is accused of brandishing a rifle at two people near Massey (Westside) Park. In addition to this charge, he is facing legal repercussions for missing court dates in two unrelated cases.
In the early hours of June 21, around 6:53 a.m., witnesses claim Wallace threatened a man and a woman with a rifle in the vicinity of Massey (Westside) Park. The male victim reported that Wallace threatened his life, and he also verbally intimidated the female victim as she distanced herself. The incident left both victims fearing for their safety.
After the male victim dialed 911, Wallace allegedly made his escape on an electric bicycle, with police officers giving chase, sirens and lights activated. The pursuit culminated in Wallace abandoning his bike and weapon to flee on foot.
It was on June 29 that law enforcement located and apprehended Wallace in the vicinity of the same park. During his arrest, authorities reportedly discovered multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia.
Wallace, who is described as homeless on a court document, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing with lights and sirens activated, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was also arrested on warrants for failing to appear at court hearings on previous cases with drug and shoplifting charges.
Wallace has seven felony convictions (non-violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2022. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $325,000.
