Staff report

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Last night at 10:00 p.m., Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of 100 NW 253rd Street regarding the report of a shooting. Deputies arrived and located an adult male suffering from a gunshot(s) wound. Deputies rendered medical aid until the victim could be transported by Alachua County Fire Rescue. The victim was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Newberry High School Principal James Sheppard sent an email to NHS families this afternoon that said, “It is with great sadness that I must share a tragedy within our Panther Family as one of our 12th-grade students passed away this weekend.” Counselors will be available at the school on Monday for students who need support.
