GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lorenzo Laverne Rose Jr., 22, was arrested after police responded to a reported shooting in the 800 block of NE 24th Street. He is accused of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. on November 1, Gainesville Police Department officers went to the area following reports of a drive-by shooting. Witnesses told investigators that a vehicle carrying at least two people pulled up and fired multiple shots at a home. People inside the residence then came outside and returned fire. Investigators recovered several shell casings, but no injuries were reported.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from a neighboring property and said it appeared to show Rose holding a firearm. The video also reportedly captured the sound of a gunshot.
Officers located Rose next door to the shooting scene. Police said he was wearing the same clothing as the person seen in the surveillance video.
Rose was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has two prior nonviolent felony convictions. Although his listed address is in Jacksonville, Rose told Justice Support Services he had been in Alachua County for only one day. He is also facing a sworn complaint stemming from a domestic battery incident reported in Gainesville on October 10. Judge Joy Danne set his bail at $50,000.
