Jake Haro has received a sentence for the tragic murder of his infant son, Emmanuel Haro, whom he previously reported as missing.

On November 3, Haro was sentenced to 25 years to life for the murder of his 7-month-old son. In addition, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office announced he faces an extra six years related to a separate child abuse incident and another eight months for illegal firearm possession, given his status as a felon.

The 32-year-old will serve each of these sentences consecutively.

During the sentencing, Judge Gary Polk addressed Jake in court, as reported by KABC, stating, “Mr. Haro, the man who was supposed to protect these defenseless children… the sentence here is the most that the court can do to ensure that as much justice is done as possible.”

Emmanuel’s grandmother, Mary Beushausen, expressed her desire for the judge to impose “the maximum” penalty during the proceedings.

She added, ”I wish he could look at me and tell me why.”

What Happened to Emmanuel Haro?

Emmanuel’s mother Rebecca Haro—who is now facing criminal charges of her own—first reported the baby missing on August 14, 2025. She claimed that she had been changing Emmanuel’s diaper in the parking lot of a retail store in Yucaipa when an unknown male “physically assaulted” her and knocked her unconscious, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. Rebecca told authorities that when she regained consciousness, Emmanuel was gone.

In the days that followed, Rebecca and Jake plead for their son’s safe return, with Jake insisting in an interview with KABC that he had been “a healthy baby.”

Yet, authorities were skeptical of the story from the start, noting numerous inconsistencies in Rebecca’s account. Investigators concluded the kidnapping claims had been a hoax and Jake and Rebecca were arrested for murder on Aug. 22.

Days later, Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said during a press conference that authorities believed Emmanuel had been “severely” abused over time by his parents, ultimately leading to his death. His remains have not yet been recovered.

Although he initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, Jake changed his plea in October, pleading guilty to murder, assault on a child under 8 causing death and filing a false police report.

“The lies told in this case only deepened the tragedy of Emmanuel’s death,” Hestrin said in the statement Nov. 3. “While today’s sentence represents a measure of accountability for Jake Haro, our office will continue to seek justice as the case against his co-defendant moves forward.”

Rebecca has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and filing a false report and is expected to appear in court for a felony settlement conference on Jan. 21, prosecutors said. reached to her attorney, but did not receive an immediate response.

Jake Haro Receives Additional Prison Time in Separate Case

At the time of Emmanuel’s death, according to KESQ, Jake had been on probation for another child abuse incident in October of 2018 involving an infant daughter he shares with his ex-wife.

In that case, Hestrin said at the August press conference that the child suffered an acute rib fracture, partial bone fracture of the skull, brain hemorrhage and had signs of a healing tibia fracture and other rib fractures, Hestrin shared. As a result of the “severe abuse,” Hestrin said the child was left “permanently bedridden.”

The six-year sentence Haro received on Nov. 3 was the result of a probation violation in the 2018 case, according to KABC.
