The sentencing trial of a man guilty of killing a Houston family of three has come to a close.

On March 24, moments before opening statements were given at 30-year-old Xavier Davis’s trial, he pleaded guilty to the murders of Donyavia Lagway, 29, Gregory Carhee, 35, and Harmoney Carhee, 6. Davis’s guilty plea immediately moved his case into the sentencing phase, where a jury would determine whether he would receive the death penalty or not, according to Fox 26.

The jury listened to 10 days of testimony given by the state, resting on April 4. The defense then began its testimony on April 7 and rested on April 16.

On Thursday, the jury returned its decision, sentencing Davis to death, as reported by Fox 26.

As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Alexus Chenelle Williams hired Xavier Davis as a “hitman.”

The incident happened in June 2021 at an apartment in the 12100 block of Fondren, where Lagway, who was pregnant, lived with her husband and daughter.

According to prosecutors, Williams and Lagway had an affair, but Lagway ended the relationship and went back to her husband. At that point, Williams allegedly hired Davis to kill Lagway and her entire family.

The family’s 10-year-old daughter was critically injured during the attack but survived. She reportedly played dead while shielding her infant brother after the alleged killer threw him across the room.

KHOU reported that Williams was also arrested and charged with capital murder. She is due in court in April for a pre-trial hearing.
