Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Both Kanapaha Middle School and Buchholz High School have been evacuated and are on lockdown due to bomb threats. Both schools are being swept by law enforcement, and notifications have been sent to all families.

9:10 a.m. update: BHS students are on the football field, KMS students are at Wiles (those on campus before 7:30 a.m.) and Veterans Park. Students may be picked up, but it is not required.

10:30 a.m. update: Law enforcement has not yet been able to clear all of the buildings for students to return to classes. We have been able to clear the gym area for students to be staged there. Because all classroom buildings cannot be cleared, school for Buchholz is canceled for the remainder of the day. Parents can come and check their child out. We are redirecting check-out traffic to enter and leave from the south gate of our main student parking lot. Please remember that you will need appropriate ID to check out your student.

If your student is a bus rider, buses are scheduled to come and pick up riders so they can be released as well.

Once we receive the all-clear from law enforcement, after-school activities may resume as normally scheduled.

11:05 a.m. update: School is canceled for the rest of the day for both Buchholz High and Kanapaha Middle School as law enforcement continues to check both campuses. Buses will take Buchholz bus riders back to their regular stops. Parents can also pick up their students on campus. If the campus is cleared by law enforcement in time, after-school activities will be held as planned.

11:30 a.m. update:

Law enforcement has given the all-clear at Buchholz High School. A sweep of the campus turned up nothing suspicious.

The sweep of the Kanapaha Middle School campus is still underway, but so far nothing has been found on that campus.

Law enforcement is investigating the source of the threats.

11:50 a.m. update: Law enforcement has given the all clear at both Buchholz High School and Kanapaha Middle School. Sweeps of both campuses turned up nothing suspicious.

Law enforcement is investigating the source of the threats. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, school staff or the district’s security office at (352) 955-955-7514.
