New insights have come to light regarding the circumstances that led authorities to apprehend a Chicago doctor accused of murdering his former wife and her current husband in their Ohio residence.
Michael David McKee, aged 39, was detained on January 10 in relation to the fatal shootings of Spencer Tepe, 37, and Monique Tepe, 39, as reported by the Columbus Police Department.
McKee faces two murder charges, according to People, and was apprehended without resistance in Rockford, Illinois following an extensive weeklong manhunt.
Authorities believe that the Tepes were fatally shot in their home during the early hours between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on December 30. They were found later that morning after Spencer missed work at his dental clinic, prompting friends to request a welfare check. The couple’s two young children, aged 1 and 4, along with their pet dog, were discovered safe inside the house.
Surveillance footage released by the police showed a person of interest walking in an alley around the time of the murders. An affidavit obtained by WLWT revealed that investigators were led to McKee after tracking him via a vehicle spotted near the Tepe residence. The footage captured the vehicle arriving shortly before the murders and departing afterward.

When Were David McKee and Monique Tepe Married?
McKee and Monique got married in 2015, before filing for divorce two years later, per The Columbus Dispatch. The couple had no children together.
Monique married Spencer, an Ohio dentist, in 2020.
An unnamed relative told The Daily Mail that the family was breathing “a sigh of relief” after the arrest.
The Tepe family also issued a statement to The Columbus Dispatch, expressing their gratitude for law enforcement authorities.
“Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon,” they said. “We thank the community for the continued support, prayers and compassion shown throughout this tragedy. As the case proceeds, we trust the justice system to hold the person responsible fully accountable.”
Where is David McKee Now?
Police have declined to release additional details in the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
McKee is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail in Illinois as he awaits extradition. He’s scheduled to appear in court Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m. local time, per The Columbus Dispatch. It’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney.
