GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a dramatic turn of events in Gainesville, a 51-year-old Kissimmee resident, Joan Seltsikas, was taken into custody on allegations of wielding a firearm following a dispute over money at a local business.
Authorities responded to an incident on November 12 at Studio Skyn, located at 1410 NW 13th Street. An employee reported that Seltsikas entered the establishment seeking cash. When the employee informed Seltsikas that no money was available and asked him to leave, the situation escalated. Seltsikas allegedly began shouting and forcibly entered the premises. In a tense confrontation, he reportedly lifted his shirt to reveal a handgun tucked into his waistband, prompting fears that he might use the weapon. The employee acted quickly, shutting the door and contacting 911 for assistance.
Seltsikas fled the scene, but was later spotted at a nearby CVS. Police apprehended him and discovered a black-handled BB gun in his waistband during the search.
While the arrest report notes that Seltsikas possesses both a Florida driver’s license and a Social Security number, it also reveals that he is a Cuban national, having been identified through his passport.
Seltsikas has been charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $200,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.
