Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Demarcus Marke Wilson, 28, of Lake City, was arrested early this morning on attempted homicide charges after allegedly shooting at his ex-girlfriend’s car on I-75 near Gainesville.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the shoulder of I-75 at the 401 mile marker at about 4 a.m. this morning, where he made contact with the victims of a shooting.

The female victim said she had been at a block party, where she saw Wilson, her ex-boyfriend, and Wilson asked her to give him a ride back to his car. She and her friend, the male victim, drove Wilson to his car, but the female victim’s phone rang during the drive, reportedly causing Wilson to become angry and accuse her of messing with his feelings and playing games.

After they dropped Wilson off, Wilson allegedly followed the victims onto Newberry Road, almost causing them to crash. The female victim said she made several evasive maneuvers and ran red lights to get away from Wilson before getting onto I-75 northbound to drive to Lake City. She said she heard the first shot shortly after getting on the interstate and heard something hit the rear of her vehicle. She said she kept driving, and she heard more shots at about the 392 mile marker but didn’t think her vehicle was hit.

The deputy reported that there appeared to be one bullet impact mark on the female victim’s vehicle.

The 911 call-taker reportedly said gunshots could be heard in the background of the call; the victims said they heard a total of six shots, all from behind.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Wilson’s vehicle and reportedly saw several spent shell casings in plain view inside the vehicle. Wilson reportedly told deputies there was a firearm in the glove box.

Post-Miranda, Wilson at one point denied shooting at the victim’s vehicle. At another point, he reportedly said he shot from his vehicle in an attempt to scare the victims but denied trying to kill anybody.

Wilson has been charged with two counts of attempted homicide, one count of discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle, and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Wilson is on pre-trial release in Columbia County for possession of oxycodone. He has not had his first appearance hearing to set bail for the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
