Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney is addressing the public in the wake of her high-profile trial ending without a verdict.
Kevin Reddington, who has repeatedly defended Clancy’s character, said his client is “not evil” and appealed to President Donald Trump to grant her a pardon.
“Mr. President,” he said in a Sept. 8 interview with Good Morning America, “I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she’s been through and consider a pardon.”
In a new interview, Reddington looked back on the closely watched case, discussed the single juror who prevented a unanimous decision, and spoke about what may come next for Clancy, whom he described as an “incredible person.”
“She’s very, very intelligent, hard working,” Reddington said, noting that Clancy had spent roughly nine years as a respected labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also described her as “a wonderful neighbor, friend, wife, mother.”
Clancy is accused by prosecutors of killing her three young children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan — inside the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, on Jan. 24, 2023. Her defense team has not contested that she caused the children’s deaths, but argued at trial that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time and should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Following seven days of deliberation, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial Sept. 4 after the jurors were unable to reach a verdict in a case that has captivated the nation.
Lindsay Clancy Defense Attorney Details Frustration With Juror
Reddington told George Stephanopoulos Sept. 8 that he believed the final jury count was 11-1 in favor of a not guilty verdict.
Though he said he would “defend that individual’s right to be a holdout for forever,” he questioned whether the juror had been following the law.
“He had agreed, according to a note from the forelady, that he had doubt, but he would not apply the law of reasonable doubt as presented by the judge,” Reddington alleged. “That’s not right and that’s why I was upset.”
He added that he had yet to speak to any of the other jurors and had no plans to do so.
Though he backed off on earlier claims that he had “crushed” the prosecution, dismissing it as “bravado” after a long trial, Reddington maintained that the defense had been “very strong.”

Prosecutor Tim Cruz has pushed back any claims of defeat, according to CBS Austin, saying, “The facts are Lindsay Clancy killed her three children and the evidence suggested to us that she was in control of her actions when she committed those homicides.”
As prosecutors now try to decide whether to retry the case or offer a plea deal, Reddington said he was “willing to listen” to Cruz.
“I’ve known Tim for 30 years. He’s a very hard-charging prosecutor, conservative gentleman,” he told Stephanopoulos. “I hope, however, after sitting through this trial and seeing the evidence that was presented from the government as well as from the defense, that he would revisit the issue and hopefully would be able to work something out that would be acceptable to both sides.”
Patrick Clancy’s Attorney Calls Out “Destructive Defamation Campaign”
In the wake of the mistrial, Patrick Clancy’s lawyer Howard Cooper issued a statement denying speculation that he had been involved in his children’s deaths and threatening legal action against any conspiracy theorists.
“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Cooper noted in the statement obtained by CBS News. “This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.”
“This campaign, now fueled by insatiable media coverage, remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life,” he continued. “Patrick has no choice but to address this situation—with the clear goal of stopping injurious behavior, creating accountability for lies that are self-serving to the perpetrators, and being able to return his attention to what matters: preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges.”
Though Reddington did not directly respond to Cooper’s statement, he did tell Good Morning America that the family was “very happy” together in the summer of 2022 before Clancy began suffering from postpartum depression symptoms that fall.
“She explained on a number of occasions to her mother, to her father, to her husband that she was suffering, and she was suffering horribly,” he explained. “She reached out. She called suicide hotlines twice. She went to the Women and Infant’s Hospital in Rhode Island, and was turned away because of the drugs that were prescribed to her. This girl’s life was ruined.”
When asked to address those who may feel Clancy was using postpartum depression as a rationalization for her actions that night, Reddington vehemently disagreed.
“It’s not evil. These people don’t understand,” he said. “They don’t know what she went through. They didn’t see her text messages. They didn’t see her journal.”
He added that she had repeatedly reached out to anybody who would listen but her claims were ignored.
Cruz has yet to decide whether he plans to retry the case, per WCVB.
