In a tragic case from Louisiana, a couple faces murder charges following the death of their two-month-old daughter. The infant succumbed to internal injuries, including a severed lower spine.
According to the Opelousas Police Department, officers responded to a call on October 25, shortly after 8 p.m., where they found the baby unresponsive. Despite immediate life-saving efforts and swift transportation to a hospital, the infant was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The autopsy revealed heart-wrenching details: the child had suffered from severe neglect and abuse, marked by dehydration, malnutrition, broken ribs, and a severed lower spine.
Subsequently, arrest warrants were issued for Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, both 18, charging them with first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery.
Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse.” He emphasized the commitment of investigators to thoroughly uncover the truth, urging the community for patience, cooperation, and support in seeking justice.
Fontenot was taken into custody on Friday and Broussard on Monday. Fontenot is no longer listed in jail records, while Broussard is.
