A Michigan resident is now facing serious charges of assault following a grievous incident involving his pregnant girlfriend, who suffered significant injuries, including a brain bleed, during an alleged altercation.

According to reports, Dylan Lee Haddix, aged 29, took his 39-year-old partner to a Walmart for Tylenol after she had requested to be taken to a hospital. The trip to the store ended dramatically, with the woman experiencing a seizure in the vehicle upon their return. This alarming development eventually led Haddix to dial 911 for emergency assistance.

The arrival of the woman at the hospital raised immediate red flags with medical staff, who subsequently alerted the police. Upon their arrival, officers encountered Haddix in the waiting area. He initially claimed that his girlfriend had accidentally fallen and hit her head on a wall corner. He explained that he only became aware of her condition when she began speaking incoherently, prompting the decision to visit Walmart for medication instead of seeking immediate medical attention.

Upon examination, medical professionals discovered a pronounced contusion on the woman’s forehead, alongside bruises on her neck and arms. When questioned about these injuries, Haddix professed ignorance, offering no explanation for how they might have occurred.

Further police interrogation revealed a more disturbing narrative. Haddix confessed to investigators that he had previously been involved in a motorcycle accident in 2014, which he claimed had impaired his memory. Amidst this discussion, he admitted to a heated argument with his girlfriend over her use of a gambling app. In a moment of anger, he disclosed that he had slammed her head against the wall and floor, warning her, “I told you time and time again, don’t mess with my money.”

Then, he said, he took her to Walmart because “I was in the helping mood and I like helping people.”

“I didn’t mean for this to happen and I feel terrible,” he said.

The woman regained consciousness the following day and told police that Haddix had gotten angry about their toddler crying “and he kind of pushed me” while she was holding the child.

She said that Haddix had been violent with her around 10 times, including months earlier when she was 10 weeks pregnant. She is currently five months pregnant.

When police went arrest Haddix on December 29, he told the officers he “wasn’t allowed to go to jail due to a brace that was on his leg.” He fought with officers and was ultimately also charged with assault while resisting arrest.

Haddix is being held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on January 14.
