In a chilling incident out of Wisconsin, a man reportedly consumed by intense emotions of “frustration, hatred, and anger” towards his father, fatally stabbed the 73-year-old more than 25 times before fleeing in the victim’s classic car, according to police accounts.

The suspect, 34-year-old Jacob Sanders, faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide following the brutal death of Michael Sanders in Mauston, a town situated roughly 75 miles northwest of Madison. The sequence of events began when the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana reached out to Wisconsin’s Juneau County Communications Center on January 21st at around 4:15 p.m., expressing concerns over Michael Sanders’ well-being, as detailed by the Mauston Police Department in a press release.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Law&Crime, deputies in Vigo County apprehended Jacob Sanders for driving without a license during a routine traffic stop while he was behind the wheel of his father’s 1989 Chevrolet Caprice. Officers observed blood on his hand. Although Jacob claimed he had his father’s permission to use the car, they were unable to verify this, as they couldn’t reach Michael Sanders. Jacob explained he was heading to Tennessee to visit his grandmother’s grave.

Responding officers from Mauston visited the Willows Motel, where Michael Sanders resided, and discovered him lifeless on the bed, bearing multiple stab wounds to his hands, neck, and face. Authorities determined that Jacob Sanders lived in an adjacent room. A search of his room revealed a Karambit-style knife with a curved blade, seemingly stained with blood.

Investigators also interviewed the victim’s daughter, who reportedly indicated that her brother was the likely suspect due to his strained relationship with their father, characterized by mistreatment. The police had been called to the motel the previous day after Michael Sanders requested assistance in having his son removed from his room. Jacob Sanders allegedly expressed his frustration to an officer about his father’s habit of pointing fingers at him, which upset him.

“It was a trigger,” he allegedly told an officer.

The suspect “expressed extreme frustration, hatred and anger” toward his father, cops wrote.

Jacob Sanders also was the sole beneficiary of his father’s life insurance policy, something the family was trying to change, cops wrote.

An autopsy determined Michael Sanders suffered 26 stab wounds to his body, some of which were defensive.

“[The victim’s] left index finger (pointer) is nearly severed off due to a sharp force injury, as well as his left thumb,” the affidavit said. His ear was also nearly severed from his body, the affidavit also noted.

The suspect remains in custody in Indiana, pending extradition back to Wisconsin.
