An Ohio resident, who confessed to the abduction of his 12-year-old cousin and the subsequent pouring of bleach on the child’s face, is set to serve a prison sentence.

DeMarcus Pleasure, aged 38, received a three-year prison sentence earlier this month following his guilty plea to an abduction charge. Initially facing charges of kidnapping and assault, these were dropped due to a plea agreement. Local NBC affiliate WDTN reported that Pleasure admitted to forcibly taking his cousin from his Dayton home and coercing him into a car on February 22.

Pleasure, along with 33-year-old Reka Jarmon, allegedly transported the boy to a different location where they are accused of assaulting him by pouring bleach on his face.

Details from an affidavit, as reported by the Dayton Daily News, reveal that Pleasure and Jarmon reportedly hit the boy multiple times at home before forcing him into a vehicle. The duo then took him to another residence, where the alleged assault continued, including the bleach attack. The affidavit notes the boy suffered injuries to his eyes and face due to this assault.

Emergency responders were summoned to the second location, where they transported the boy to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he has since made a full recovery.

The Dayton Daily News and local CBS affiliate WHIO both reported that Dayton police said the boy might have been suspected of sexual assault, but this information was not confirmed.

Jarmon was also charged with kidnapping, assault, and abduction. Her case is ongoing.

In court for his sentencing, Pleasure told the judge, “I made a mistake.” He explained that at the time, he did not consider taking his own relative to be an abduction. “I lived with this little boy. I raised him as my own,” he said of the victim.

Pleasure was sentenced to three years in prison for abduction with credit for 243 days he has already served.
