GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Cameron Ravie Pate, 28, was arrested early this morning and charged with aggravated domestic assault after allegedly throwing a grill through a glass door and threatening his girlfriend with a knife.
At about 2:30 a.m. this morning, Pate went outside to take out the trash during an argument with his girlfriend; although both live in the apartment, his girlfriend locked him out. Pate contacted law enforcement to ask for help getting back inside, so a Gainesville Police Department officer responded and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. Pate reportedly told the officer he intended to use force to get back inside, and the officer reportedly advised him to find another place to stay for the night or otherwise resolve the situation peacefully. The officer left after unsuccessfully trying to contact the woman inside the apartment.
About three minutes after the officer left, Pate reportedly threw a grill at the back sliding glass door of the apartment, shattering the door. He and his girlfriend began arguing again, then Pate allegedly grabbed a large knife from the kitchen and told her not to come any closer. The victim locked herself inside her car to wait for law enforcement.
The responding officer reportedly found Pate standing beside the shattered glass door.
