GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Deontay Breshaun Richardson, 38, was arrested early this morning and charged with attempted carjacking after allegedly demanding that a nurse give him her car outside HCA North Florida Hospital.
The victim, a nurse at the hospital, went to her car to eat during her break at 3:05 a.m. She told Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies that Richardson approached her car and demanded that she open the door. She said that when she refused, Richardson said, “I have a gun, open the door” and began pulling on the handles of the front and rear doors on the driver’s side. She said she continuously honked her horn while yelling at him to go away. She said he walked away in the direction of O2B Kids, and she contacted hospital security.
Deputies connected the incident with an earlier incident when Richardson was reportedly brought to the hospital by Alachua County Fire Rescue; hospital security also said the description matched a man who had just been discharged and gave the man’s name to deputies. Hospital cameras reportedly showed Richardson leaving the hospital just before the incident, attempting to ride a bike away from the hospital, then falling; he brought the bike back and walked into the hospital, then came back outside and walked up to the victim’s car.
