GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a startling incident early today, police arrested 29-year-old Erin Deshawn Williams after he allegedly caused a disturbance at a stranger’s apartment door, obstructed the peephole, and smashed a liquor bottle against it.
The Gainesville Police Department responded to an emergency call at Frederick Gardens Apartments, located at 1130 SW 16th Avenue, around 12:29 a.m. on December 12. The resident, who had taken refuge in her bathroom, dialed 911 to report the alarming behavior of a man banging on her door and blocking her view through the peephole, followed by the sound of glass shattering.
Upon arrival, officers found Williams on a lower-level landing beneath the victim’s apartment. According to police reports, Williams claimed he had no acquaintances at the apartment complex and that he “did whatever he wanted.” He was unable to identify the name of the complex or anyone residing there. Officers described Williams as “belligerent” and noted his inability to alleviate concerns that he might have been attempting to break into the apartment.
During the arrest, a search revealed a bag containing a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamines.
Post Miranda, Williams reportedly said the baggie contained cocaine.
The victim reportedly identified Williams as the man she had seen outside her door and said she did not know him.
Williams has been charged with disorderly conduct, loitering/prowling, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $17,000 but ordered that he could be released on his own recognizance if he is cleared for day reporting.
