Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tony Alphonso Johnson, Sr., 55, was arrested last night and charged with property damage over $1,000 after allegedly intentionally ramming a woman’s car.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call at about 7:55 p.m. last night about a pickup truck ramming a parked vehicle and reportedly found Johnson with his chest, stomach, and clothes covered in blood; the deputy reported that Johnson was bleeding heavily from a facial injury. The deputy also reported that Johnson was initially uncooperative and had the “very strong odor” of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

The caller told the deputy that she had dated Johnson on and off and that her vehicle had been hit, but she did not witness the incident.

The property manager, who reportedly witnessed the incident, said she saw Johnson intentionally drive his white Ford F150 into the victim’s car. She said that after Johnson hit the victim’s car, he backed up into a tree, hitting it so hard that he stalled his truck. The deputy reported that there was a gash in the tree.

The deputy also reported that the victim’s car had damage to the front quarter panel and front door, with white paint transferred where it had been hit. The damage was estimated at over $1,000. The deputy also noted that there was significant damage to the rear of the truck where it had hit the tree, including a shattered rear window; glass in the interior; and blood on the seatbelt, seat, and door.

Johnson has 14 felony convictions (four violent) and nine misdemeanor convictions (two violent). He has served four state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2017. He was arrested for domestic battery in October 2022, but the charges were later dropped. Bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
