A 20-year-old Pennsylvania man is accused of attacking his parents — and the cops who came to arrest him — after his mother refused to give him money for marijuana, police said.
Evan Gabriel Houseman faces a string of charges, including assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and harassment, online court records show.
The criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime spells out the allegations from Jan. 5. Police were dispatched to his home on Sam Snead Circle in Newberry Township when Houseman’s father called 911, saying his son was assaulting his wife. Newberry Township is more than 100 miles west of Philadelphia.
Houseman was yelling, “shoot me,” the affidavit said. Dispatchers could hear the sounds of a struggle in the background of the call.
Houseman’s mother told police the violence stemmed from an argument the previous night. She said he wanted money transferred to him so he could purchase marijuana, the document said. When she declined, the argument escalated. Houseman then allegedly began threatening suicide, saying he “was going to overdose on pills.”
She told police the following morning that he grabbed her head, pushed it toward the floor and then put her in a headlock, according to the affidavit. She said that her son told her that if she did not hand over his medication, he was going to apply pressure to her neck before he released her and took his medication into his room, the document said.
Things allegedly took a turn for the worse when the father got involved in the fracas.
He and his son began arguing, the document said. The younger Houseman then allegedly threw a TV and Xbox down a flight of stairs, breaking both and damaging the wall. When his father went down the steps to check the damage, he said his son pushed him down the steps to the ground, hitting his head on the garage door, the affidavit said.
The father then went outside to distance himself from his son while his wife called 911. His son followed him outside, though, and allegedly pushed him down in the driveway and put him in a headlock, the document said. Houseman allegedly told his father he was going to kill him and “take you both out.”
The victim’s son let his father up before the younger Houseman started to damage his father’s vehicle with a stick, the affidavit said.
Police arrived and said they ordered the suspect to put his hands behind his back, but he did not comply and started to walk toward the victim a few feet away. Officers had to use a Taser on Houseman to bring him into custody, the document said.
While in custody, Houseman kicked officers several times “in sensitive areas of our bodies,” the affidavit said.
The parents were hospitalized. Houseman was taken to a hospital to be mentally evaluated and checked before being booked into York County Prison. He’s set to appear in court on Feb. 5.
