Police in Texas are investigating a beheading at a Dallas motel Wednesday.

Police said they were called to the Downtown Suites motel at about 9:30 a.m. and found the victim stabbed multiple times with an “edged object,” KDFW reported.

Police have not confirmed that the victim was beheaded, but images from the station’s helicopter showed a headless body on the sidewalk outside the motel.

Police said a suspect was arrested down the street in front of a store.

“Even though he was armed with a bladed weapon, the officers showed restraint and used minimal force to apprehend him,” said Assistant Dallas Police Chief Terrance Rhodes.

Stephanie Elliott told WFAA that she witnessed the attack. She said the suspect attacked with a machete after some kind of argument. The victim tried to run away but fell, and the suspect kept attacking.

“He just kept hitting him and hitting until he decapitated him,” Elliott said. “I could not believe that anybody would do another human being that way.”

Authorities have not named either the victim or the suspect and did not say if they knew one another. They said charges were pending.
