Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jon Theodore Secreto, 46, was arrested yesterday morning after allegedly throwing a brick through a window and then claiming someone else threw something at him and cut his arm.

At about 5:08 a.m. on September 17, Secreto allegedly called 911, saying he had been stabbed in the arm, but then he changed his story and told the call-taker that someone threw something at him and the object cut him. This caused multiple law enforcement units to respond to a home in the neighborhood east of the 3100 block of NW 13th Street.

After officers made contact with Secreto, he allegedly told the same story, but an officer reportedly viewed surveillance video from the home and saw Secreto throwing a brick into a window of the home; the officer learned that Secreto had stayed at the home for about two weeks, but he was asked to leave by the owner of the home.

The investigation found that Secreto had thrown a brick through the window, which caused glass from the window to hit his arm, leaving a cut in his forearm.

Post Miranda, Secreto again reportedly said someone in the home threw something at him and it cut him.

Secreto has been charged with breaking the window and making a false police report. He has five felony convictions (one violent) and five misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He was arrested in June 2024 for shooting a BB gun at a neighbor and later entered a plea of nolo contendere to simple assault, with a sentence of 15 days in jail and 6 months of probation; when he violated probation by failing to report to his probation officer, he was arrested and later sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for 30 days served. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $7,500 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
