Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jocelyn Brutus, 35, was arrested last night and charged with domestic aggravated assault and child abuse without great bodily harm after allegedly pointing a gun at his ex-girlfriend in the presence of a child.
Brutus and the victim had reportedly been arguing on Thursday when Brutus went to her Woodland Park residence to continue the argument. At about 4:30 p.m., he reportedly left her residence in his car, circled the block, and then came back. He allegedly got out of his car, walked up to the victim, and pointed a gun at her head. A young child reportedly saw this, and the responding Gainesville Police Department officer noted that the child could potentially suffer mental injury as a result of seeing Brutus point a gun at the woman. The woman reportedly told the officer that she was shocked and scared when she saw the gun, but Brutus left after she yelled at him.
A witness reportedly told the officer that Brutus said “You’re dead” to the woman after he went back to his car.
Brutus has no local criminal history. Judge Robert Groeb set bail at $100,000.
