A man in California has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend’s mother — with prosecutors saying he “brutally beat” the 65-year-old to death with his “bare hands” and a “piece of glass” from a table — all because he thought his partner was cheating on him.

“Imagined infidelity,” prosecutors said in describing Kevin Durran Hart’s motivation for attacking Jackie Robinson, the mother of his girlfriend, in May 2023 at her home in Seaside, according to a press release by the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

“Hart became enraged” and “chose to take his anger out on Mrs. Robinson,” according to the DA’s office, after coming to believe that his girlfriend was unfaithful.

“He entered Mrs. Robinson’s home and brutally beat her to death,” prosecutors said. “Seaside Police found him in the home, covered in blood. Efforts to save Mrs. Robinson’s life were not successful.”

According to the DA’s office, Hart, 47, was convicted by a jury on Friday of first-degree murder and using a deadly weapon in the commission of the murder. He pleaded not guilty and claimed to not be involved with the murder at Robinson’s residence in the 1200 block of Hamilton Avenue.

Robinson’s obituary described her as a Monterey Peninsula native and mother of two who was active in her church as the senior usher board’s president, according to The Sacramento Bee. “Jackie had a very kind and loving heart with a smile that made anyone who came into her presence feel loved,” the tribute said.

Hart is scheduled to be sentenced on May 7. He is reportedly facing a possibility of at least 26 years to life in prison.
