Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Isaiah Deonte Perry, 26, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault and property damage after allegedly trying to stab a woman with an ice pick and damaging her car.

The victim, who has known Perry her whole life, told the responding Gainesville Police Department officer that Perry tried to stab her with an ice pick during an argument and that she was in fear for her life. She said she tried to leave in her vehicle, but Perry jumped on her vehicle and tried to break the windows. The officer reported that the vehicle sustained about $500 in damage.

Perry was last arrested on June 9 for allegedly stealing large amounts of food from a locked commercial refrigerator owned by the Black on Black Crime Task Force and located at the Reichert House. Perry reportedly said he took the food to “feed his camp.” He was released on his own recognizance.

He was also arrested in 2022 for stabbing a woman at Campus Walk Apartments, but the charges were later dropped after he was convicted of battery on a jail detainee and sentenced to one year in state prison.

Perry, who is described as homeless in court documents, has a juvenile criminal history between 2011 and 2016, two adult felony convictions (one violent), and one misdemeanor conviction (violent). He has served two state prison sentences and was last released in September 2023. In addition to yesterday’s charges, he is facing a sworn complaint for additional counts of stealing food from the Black on Black Crime Task Force refrigerator. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $17,000 on the new charges, and today Judge James Colaw revoked Perry’s bond on the burglary/theft case and ordered him held without bail on those charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
