A 21-year-old Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting a 16-year-old boy 15 times, killing him, after a weekslong dispute.
Jamary Isaiah Brown, 21, learned his fate on Tuesday for the murder of Amarion Robinson. Brown was found guilty in November of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children in the first degree, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Robinson’s mother, Tina Brant, told local NBC affiliate WSAV she was disappointed in the outcome.
“I feel like he should have gotten no parole,” Brant said. “I don’t think 30 years is enough. My baby’s never coming back.”
In Georgia, defendants sentenced to life in prison are eligible for parole after 30 years.
“He took justice into his own hands,” she added. “My son didn’t have a gun. My son didn’t even have a chance. It’s wrong. He shot my baby over 15 times. I will never forgive him. I’m sorry.”
Brown’s defense attorneys tried to minimize the punishment, saying he grew up without a father and has learning disabilities, the station reported.
The bloodshed happened on Dec. 6, 2021, at an apartment complex on Augusta Road in Garden City. Police responded to the scene and found Robinson suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at a hospital, officials said in a press release.
Police put out a wanted bulletin searching for Brown, then 17. He surrendered four days after the shooting.
Prosecutors said the shooting was retaliation after the victim hit the defendant’s brother repeatedly weeks earlier.
A year after her son was killed, his mother wrote on Facebook, “it still feels unreal.”
“I’ve been begging and praying for strength and understanding since,” she added. “It has not been easy for me or your siblings.”
