A Florida man accused of fatally shooting his sister after she reportedly kicked him out of their mother’s house may face the death penalty if he is convicted.

Pedro Pablo Linares, 57, was arrested in July, months after he allegedly shot and killed his sister, 60-year-old Beatriz Linares-Calamita, at her workplace in Miami. According to an arrest warrant reviewed by Law&Crime, Linares-Calamita evicted her brother from their mother’s home “due to his lack of care or financial contribution” to the household. After the eviction, Linares allegedly started showing up at his sister’s home unannounced.

On April 4, he allegedly showed up to her place of work, where he was caught on camera shooting her multiple times before running away.

Police wrote in the arrest warrant that the Ring camera at the front door of Linares-Calamita’s workplace showed Linares first arriving at around 4:59 p.m. He tried opening the door, but was not able to get inside. Linares can be seen wearing blue gloves and a surgical mask that covered his face.

According to police, Linares returned to the workplace at 5:35 p.m., still wearing the gloves and mask, and this time, the front door was open. The warrant stated that Linares came inside “with a firearm in his hand” and “shot [Linares-Calamita] several times, at close range.” He then fled the scene.

Linares was positively identified by Linares-Calamita’s husband and daughter after police showed them still images from the Ring camera video.

Police said that Linares escaped to Louisiana until he was finally arrested on July 15. He was charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary and assault. Linares was formally indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 3.

On Monday, the Miami-Dade State’s Attorney’s Office announced that they intended to seek the death penalty against Linares. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.
