A Vermont man allegedly told the FBI that he intended to kill President Donald Trump, shoot him in the head and carry out other acts of violence, according to federal prosecutors.
“This is Keegan I will do that s— f— Donald Trump,” Keegan Lagasse, 21, of Richford, allegedly wrote in an online tip submitted to the FBI National Threat Operations Center on Nov. 9, according to a federal complaint.
“I’m gonna murder all them,” Lagasse allegedly wrote, prosecutors said.
Lagasse also allegedly threatened to shoot Trump in the head or plant a bomb to destroy the White House. “Murder for hire I might have someone else kill him,” he wrote, according to the complaint.
On Aug. 24, 2026, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received another online tip that “appears to have been submitted by Lagasse,” federal prosecutors said. The complaint states that the sender again identified “Keegan Lagasse” as both the complainant and the subject, adding the message: “Im gonna kill trump.”
In a detention motion filed last week, prosecutors acknowledged that Lagasse may not have possessed the “immediate physical capabilities to fulfill all the threats.” They argued, however, that the repeated nature of the alleged threats—and the law enforcement response they required—made the case especially serious.

The Justice Department filing also alleges that Lagasse posted a video showing him holding what appeared to be a rifle. Weeks later, prosecutors say, he posted that he planned to “shoot up” a local high school. “Accordingly, the nature and circumstances of the offense charged support detention,” the DOJ motion states, citing what prosecutors described as a history of threats.
In October 2023, Lagasse allegedly threatened to blow up Richford, Missisquoi and Essex high schools in Vermont. The following February, prosecutors say, he threatened to bomb the Cadillac Motel in St. Albans City and “shoot people.”
Lagasse allegedly made more threats in September 2024, including warnings that he would blow up a Maple Fields convenience store in St. Albans and Richford High School. In November 2024, he reportedly posted on social media that he planned to “shoot up” Richford.
“Following the November 2025 presidential threat, the defendant reportedly admitted to interviewing investigators that he contacted the FBI tip line and stated he hated and was going kill the president,” the DOJ said in its detention order. Prosecutors also said that, in July 2026, Lagasse told State Police dispatchers he had previously made threats involving bombs and the president.
Lagasse faces a federal charge of willfully threatening to take the life of, or cause bodily harm to, the president of the United States. A judge ordered him detained without bail. He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 5 for arraignment and a preliminary hearing.
