ARCHER, Fla. – Quadre Isaiah Roberts, 24, of Archer, was arrested yesterday morning and charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals after his adoptive mother reported that he had killed several cats.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the 12400 block of SW 171st Place in Archer at about 6:28 a.m. Friday morning, where Roberts’ adoptive mother reportedly said Roberts had been acting erratically for the past two days because she refused to give him a ride to somewhere he wanted to go; in addition, she said, he has not been taking his prescribed medication.
The deputy reported that Roberts had brought a dead cat into the house late Thursday night and told his adoptive mother that he would do the same to her. Law enforcement was called on Friday morning after it was discovered that Roberts had killed two of his adoptive mother’s cats, stabbing them both in the eye and leaving the knives in the wounds. One cat’s paws had also reportedly been cut off.
The deputy reported that after he arrested Roberts, Roberts asked if he was being arrested because he killed the cats; when the deputy said he was, Roberts reportedly started screaming. The deputy reported that during his rant, Roberts said he had killed another 19 cats and had eaten the tongues and eyeballs of two cats. Roberts also allegedly said he wished his adoptive mother was dead and that he would kill her when he got out of jail.
Roberts has no criminal convictions but has been charged in three previous criminal cases: in 2021, he was charged with domestic battery, and in two separate incidents in 2022 and 2023, he was charged with breaking a window on a car. All the charges were dropped. Judge James Colaw set bail at $200,000.
