GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jeffrey Kyle Robertson, 31, was arrested early this morning and charged with grand theft of a vehicle after allegedly stealing a vehicle and driving it to Kentucky and back.
A friend of the vehicle’s owner told a responding Gainesville Police Department that Robertson had taken the car from the McDonald’s at 2880 NW 13th Street on August 12, and the vehicle’s owner said that friends and family in Eddyville, Kentucky, had seen Robertson driving the vehicle there within the past week; Robertson reportedly has family in Eddyville. Both the owner and his friend said they had been trying to get the vehicle back for about two weeks.
The investigating officer reported that license plate cameras picked up the vehicle in Oak Grove, KY, about 40 minutes from Eddyville, on August 25.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy saw the vehicle in the Butler Plaza area earlier today and arrested Robertson.
Robertson, who is described as homeless in a court document, has a criminal history in other states between 2014 and 2023 and has a pending Notice to Appear and warrant for felony property damage in Jackson County. Judge Mark Moseley set bail at $5,000.
