In a startling incident on Saturday, a 58-year-old man from Maryland was taken into custody after allegedly aiming a firearm at a group of 12-year-old Christmas carolers who had come to his door.
Authorities identified the man as Paul Brian Susie, who now faces charges of assault along with other related offenses, as reported by Anne Arundel County Police. Officers have confiscated the .40 caliber Glock handgun involved in the incident.
As detailed by WTOP, the incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. when a trio of young girls was spreading festive cheer by singing carols door-to-door in the neighborhood. According to court documents, when they knocked on Susie’s door and announced themselves as carolers, instead of joining in the holiday spirit, Susie approached a bay window adjacent to the door and aimed a gun at the girls.
The documents further reveal that the area around the front stoop was well illuminated, indicating that Susie could clearly see he was pointing his weapon at three young girls.
The mother of one of the carolers alerted authorities after hearing the alarming account from her daughter and her friends, as reported by WUSA.
When police arrived, Susie admitted what he did and said he’d had at least one alcoholic drink. Police recovered the Glock from Susie’s gun safe; he had a legal permit for the weapon, which they said was loaded.
In addition to assault, Susie was charged with handling a weapon while under the influence.
