A New England resident has been implicated in a series of homicides that have left a chilling mark across Massachusetts. This revelation paints a disturbing portrait of a man whose alleged actions span several years and states.

Kevin Lino, a 38-year-old man, stands accused of multiple murders, including the 2012 death of Normand Varieur in Boston. His alleged criminal activities are not confined to Massachusetts; authorities also tie him to the 2014 murder of Jack Gilbert Berry in Missoula, Montana. The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, as reported by Boston 25 News, has been instrumental in unearthing these connections.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan did not mince words when discussing Lino’s alleged crimes. “Mr. Lino is a serial killer,” she stated, referencing the Department of Justice’s criteria which categorize a serial killer as an individual who murders two or more people in separate incidents. Lino has already been convicted of two such crimes, and now faces charges for two additional murders.

Investigations have further uncovered that Lino, who reportedly was homeless during the time of these murders, is suspected of killing Douglas Leon Clarke, a 30-year-old, in Cambridge in 2012. The evolving details of this case continue to underscore the severity and extent of Lino’s alleged criminal activities, painting a grim picture of the past decade.

Police initially thought Clarke died from an accidental overdose. In 2018, according to People Magazine, investigators learned that Clarke had been living in a homeless encampment at the Harvard Square MTBA station. Lino had also been living there.

Investigators now believe that Lino, who had reportedly been angry that heroin users lived at the encampment, gave Clarke a fatal dose of heroin.

He’s also accused of beating 54-year-old Gary Melanson to death with a bat in 2010, at a Lowell, Massachusetts, homeless encampment.

Authorities said there could be more victims.

In March, the remains of over 10 people were found across New England states, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine. The discoveries sparked concerns of a serial killer.

The victims, however, died in “vastly” different ways, resulting in investigators ruling out a serial killer, who often kills each victim similarly, The New York Post reports.

Lino, who is currently serving two life sentences for the murders of Varieur and Berry, is currently awaiting trial for the Clarke and Melanson cases.
