Friday morning saw a renewed effort in rural Alabama as search teams resumed their quest to locate a 4-year-old boy who vanished on Wednesday.
The boy’s older sibling, aged 6, informed law enforcement that he last spotted Johnathan Everett Boley at approximately 11:30 a.m. The child was seen with a black Labrador retriever crossing a fence line before both disappeared from view, according to Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith, as reported by the Tuscaloosa Thread.
Normally residing with their mother in Florida, the brothers were visiting their father for the holiday period and were due to return to their mother by Thursday.
“We’ve deployed aerial support, including drones, and mobilized volunteers on the ground along with K-9 units,” Sheriff Smith explained, noting the search had yet to yield any results.
He further commented, “It’s been over 24 hours of intensive searching, and we haven’t found any traces suggesting the child is in the woodland area.”
The black Lab also remains missing.
What was found were explosives on the father’s property, and he was arrested. Jameson Kyle Boley, 40, was charged with unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device, Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith said Thursday, according to AL.com.
Smith said his office arrived on the scene about an hour and a half after the boy disappeared and found the explosives while on a search of the home. Neighbors reported hearing explosions from the property for weeks, but Smith said he couldn’t say if there was any connection with the missing boy.
The search of the house was suspended briefly while federal authorities made sure it was safe.
The missing boy is described was weighing about 50 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a yellow Mickey Mouse shirt, black pants, and Paw Patrol shoes.
