The tragic story of a young boy’s disappearance has come to a somber conclusion. Thomas Medlin, a 15-year-old who vanished after leaving his elite Long Island school in January, was discovered dead in the waters of Upper New York Bay, near Brooklyn’s Red Hook area.
Authorities from the Suffolk County Police Department announced that Medlin’s body was found on Saturday, and his identity was confirmed on Thursday, according to the Daily Voice.
Medlin had last been captured on surveillance video on January 9, around 7:06 p.m., walking along a walkway on the Manhattan Bridge, as reported by CrimeOnline. Moments later, his cell phone activity ceased, and nearby cameras recorded what appeared to be a splash in the water. Unfortunately, the footage did not capture him leaving the bridge.
Earlier that same day, Medlin had departed from school and boarded a train headed into the city. His parents speculated that he might have been planning to meet someone he had encountered on the gaming platform Roblox. However, investigators ultimately determined that Roblox was not a factor in his disappearance, the Daily Voice reported.
Medlin left school earlier that day and took a train into the city. His parents said that he may have gone to meet someone he met on the gaming platform Roblox, but investigators later said the platform was not connected with his disappearance, the Daily Voice said.
He was seen at Grand Central Station at about 5:30 p.m. before the trip across the East River via the Manhattan Bridge, about a three mile walk from Grand Central.
